Phyllo Sweeties
It looks like I made these odd phyllo sweeties in the middle of the night and with the lights out. Not sure why it is all so dark, perhaps the lack of color in the food, not sure. This was an experiment that I made with the leftover sheets of phyllo from the spanakopita that I made a while back. They were tasty, though I may try to fill them with a soft cheese the next go round, ricotta, mascarpone or even cream cheese, the cheese would give them more consistency. It was an experiment, not a masterpiece.
Phyllo Sweeties
- a few sheets of phyllo (you could use an entire half lb if you plan on making a lot, as I said before, I used the few sheets leftover from another recipe)
- 1/2 stick of butter, melted
- 1 tsp sugar, plus 1 tbsp for sprinkling
- 1 tsp cinnamon, plus 1 tbsp for sprinkling
Preheat the oven to 350°F. Cut the sheets of phyllo in half. Whisk the tsps of cinnamon and sugar in the melted butter.
Brush each sheet individually with the sweet butter and fold the sheet like a flag, folding one corner over another. When you have formed a triangle sprinkle some sugar and cinnamon in the center and fold it over on itself. Repeat with the remaining phyllo sheets.
Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the triangles have browned.
*Try mixing the sugar and cinnamon with some mild creamy cheese, adding a dollop on the corner before the first fold. I will next time!
